My Story

My name is Laura, I’m the proud owner of a 1958 Morris Minor "Charlie" which is currently stored in my home town of Picton.
In 2018 I'm taking Charlie on a huge adventure, hoping to raise at least $30,000.00 for the Cancer Society Research Division. Setting out from my home port of Picton, driving to Auckland, shipping Charlie from Auckland to Aberdeen, Scotland, then driving all the way from Aberdeen through the UK and Europe, then through Africa down to Cape Town. All donations go directly to the cause.

My Dad and I shared the same love for the Morris Minor he passed onto me a few years ago, named Charlie after my Granda who had the same coloured Morris when my Dad was a child growing up in Scotland, hence the reason he bought it.

It was always one of my Dad's dreams to drive from his birth city of Aberdeen, through Europe, and Africa to Cape Town. Unfortunately he never got to do it as he passed away from melanoma in 2016. I couldn’t think of anything more significant than completing this journey in his name, in the car we both shared a love of.

Laura Morrison is embarking on a huge adventure in 2018! She is taking her late father’s Morris Minor, Charlie, overland through Africa and hoping to raise at least $30,000 in support of cancer research.

Following her late father's battle against melanoma, Laura is setting out on a road trip with the aim of raising money to support cancer research. The journey was one of her father's dreams which unfortunately he didn't realise after passing away in 2016.

Setting out from her home port of Picton, New Zealand, she will be catching the ferry and then driving up to Auckland before shipping her car to Aberdeen, Scotland. Laura will then be driving all the way from Aberdeen through the UK and Europe, and then through Africa to finish in Capetown. Her journey will be self-funded, and all donations will go directly to cancer research.

The Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre is a world-leading anti-cancer drug development laboratory, which collaborates with cancer research centres around the world in their goal to bring new cancer drugs to market and improve existing cancer treatments. For every dollar donated through Laura’s fundraising efforts, the Auckland Cancer Society Research Centre will be able to apply for a further $4 in funding through grant applications!

Laura's hope is that "by doing this journey and raising money for cancer research, I can make a positive difference to treatment outcomes for others in the future".

Cancer Society NZ wish Laura all the best for her journey and a big thanks for her support. Please support Laura in her fundraising effort!
